Making Mobile Friendly Websites

Mobile Friendly Websites

Mobile Friendly WebsitesMobile phones look at websites in a different way then computers do. Mobile websites have to be made to take in account slower connection speeds, smaller screens and multimedia devices such as flash (which doesn’t work on them).

With over 1 billion people using the mobile internet it would be a good idea for your website to be mobile friendly, if it is not they will leave.

WordPress plugins
Using WordPress, you can add plugins that can easily turn your website into a mobile site when viewed on a mobile device. There are options within the plugin to let the viewers see the normal page if they wish.

Creating a smart navigation
When on a mobile device, most of the time users are using a touch screen, so navigation needs to be easy to use, creating big clear buttons is a good example of clear navigation.

Clear content
Mobile devises normally shrink the page so it can fit into their browser, if you have small text then you will not be able to see it on a mobile device. Make headlines big and easy to see as these are normally what attracts people to the page.

Use less images
When surfing the internet on a mobile device, there connection speed is normally a lot slower then on a computer, putting lots of images will make the website load slower and will make people leave before they have even seen the site.

Also putting images on will make the site less clear and hard to see, as big images can get in the way of the text and make the website stretch out of the screen.

Do not use Flash
Mobile devices do not render flash, making flash on moblie websites unusable, if your web page uses flash for navigation, content etc… then people using mobile devices will not be able to see it.

Get a good design
On a non-mobile site you can design much more detail into your web site. On the mobile version these details can be problematic.

A good design should keep your viewers comfortable when on your pages if they do not feel comfortable they will not want to stay long.

Make sure to keep your site simple and do not clutter it up.
